Think you’d like to give it a go? We welcome new members along to our weekly practices. Here’s a few things you need to know:
Practice Venue: Sandown High School – Canteen Building (Map)
Practice Time: 19:30 until 21:30 every Thursday. (Term time).
Practice Cost: £2 per week. New members can attend the first 3 practices free of charge.
Requirements: The ability to read music is not necessary, however you must have a good sense of rhythm. It is usually best to join us for the first time from September onwards, as we tend to start work on our new grooves ready for the following summer gigging season.
Unlike traditional samba we have a wide range of instruments that are currently played in the band, and we’re never afraid to try adding something different! Our typical setup consists of Low, Medium and High Surdos, Tamborims, Agogo Bells, Snare, Caixa, Timba, Shaker, Cuica, Repenique. From time to time we also add in tonal instruments such as Saxaphone, Trumpet, Singing etc.
The most important part of the experience is the weekly post-practice drink down the pub, which all members are welcome to join us at!
